This was announced at the closing ceremony and Gala Night of the Africa Fashion Reception, held at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Yenagoa.
The Goodluck Jonathan World Fashion University, will be equipped with a research centre, amphitheatre, faculty of social sciences, conference centre, textile plant building, sports complex among other facilities.
Responding, the representative of President Jonathan, High Chef Edem Duke, who is also the Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, expressed gratitude for the honourdone him, describing the gesture as a milestone development.
He noted that, Africa has come of age, in view of the number of notable designers, who have made a mark in the creative industry and must be given their pride of place in the world as the industry contributes 40 per cent of the gross domestic product across the continent.
President Jonathan, who called for a policy of fair trade to grow economies in Africa, solicited the support of men and women of goodwill to make the Goodluck Jonathan World Fashion University a reality.
Also speaking, Governor Seriake Dickson said, his administration intended to make the state become a key player in the tourism industry and facilities such as the golf course, polo club, and other infrastructure are being put in place to actualize the vision.
In pursuance of this goal, Governor Dickson expressed government’s preparedness to host one major international event monthly to place Bayelsa on the world tourism map and urged investors to explore the potentials that abound in the state as Bayelsa is open for business.
Expressing appreciation to the people of the state and the collaborative efforts of the Federal Ministry of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, the governor thanked officials of the World Fashion Organization for the confidence reposed in Bayelsa and the country as a whole.
The Bayelsa State Governor, who was visibly happy with the number Bayelsa models that participated at the event, offered to give them appropriate support to attend the World Fashion Week in Paris, France in September, this year.
In his remarks, the High Commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago to Nigeria, Mr. Nyahuma Obika saluted the developmental strides of Governor Dickson, describing his achievements as unprecedented considering the fact that, he has been in office for two and a half years.
On his part, Mr. Paco De Jaimes, President, World Fashion Organization said, the Africa Fashion Reception is a platform to promote African fashion towards contributing to the economic growth of the continent.
Dignitaries at the event were retired Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah, Deputy Governor of the state, secretary to the state government, Professor Edmund Alison-Oguru, former Deputy Governor, Peremobowei Ebebi and other top government officials.
